Annual drawdown of Lake Tapps’ water level to commence Nov. 1
Puget Sound Energy, in consultation with the Lake Tapps Community Council and Cascade Water Alliance, will begin dropping the water level of Lake Tapps on Nov. 1 as part of the reservoir’s annual wintertime drawdown. The community council urges lakeside residents to remove their boats before the drawdown starts to avoid water craft from becoming stranded on shallow, exposed inlets.
Under the collaborative drawdown plan, PSE intends to lower the reservoir’s water level by about five or six feet, and then consult with the community council and Cascade Water Alliance on whether to reduce the lake’s level even further. A key goal of the drawdown is to kill milfoil in the lake’s shallower areas by exposing the lake-bottom grass to freezing wintertime temperatures. The annual drawdown also is designed to ensure that waves from severe wintertime storms do not overtop the reservoir’s dikes.
Refilling of the reservoir is scheduled to commence by March 1, 2009, with the goal of returning the lake to its full, summer-recreation level by mid-April. Both weather and flood damage to the White River diversion dam near Buckley, if it occurs, can affect the length of time it takes to refill the reservoir.
The sale of PSE’s White River Hydroelectric Project assets, including Lake Tapps, to the Cascade Water Alliance is expected to close sometime early next year.
For current information on Lake Tapps water levels or to report boating, public-safety, or litter problems at the reservoir, please call the community council’s Lake Tapps Community Information Line at 253-891-5460.

InletIsland.org exists solely for you, the homeowners, of Inlet Island and Maple Point. The objective of the web page is to help you understand the issues that exist for the Inlet Island and Maple Point neighborhood.
Inlet Island Maintenance Company or Inlet Island Neighborhood Association (as it is often referred) was created in 1962 by the original land developers of Lake Tapps. The state of Washington has laws that specifically govern associations and how they should act - RCW 64.38. These state laws take precedent over home owners association and their right to require dues from a homeowner in order to preserve property values. Between 1962 and 1997 the by-laws of the Inlet Island Maintenance Company have changed dramatically. Today the maintenance company only exists for the care of the Park located on Island Drive and Cascade according to the Officers and Trustees.
Most Home Owners Associations are highly involved in the governance with the city council and the city planners of the community. This helps drive improvements needed for a neighborhood. Inlet and Maple Point would like to see activities and involvement levels increased to help improve the safety and security of our neighborhoods.
And, recently many homeowners have signed a petition to help drive the change for our island to be put back to the original status of it's originators intention - a single family dwelling neighborhood. The developers and planners for the Lake Tapps Communities envisioned our Island community in the 1950's to be a haven for families to enjoy a lake lifestyle and the convenience to the cities of Tacoma, Auburn and Seattle. The neighborhood is surrounded by Lake Tapps and the beauty of the greater northwest with an overwhelming amount of wetland wildlife and lake recreation activities.
